Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a recent rally in Telangana, intensified his criticism against the Congress party, alleging that if they come into power, they would introduce an ‘inheritance tax’ in Bharat.
Modi claimed that this tax would seize 55% of inherited wealth and redistribute it to others. These accusations were prompted by remarks made by Sam Pitroda, the chairman of the Bharatiya Overseas Congress, who mentioned inheritance tax as an “interesting idea,” referring to its implementation in certain US states.
During the rally, Modi also took aim at the policies and practices of the Congress, highlighting what he perceives as their five political symbols: false promises, vote bank politics, support for criminal elements, dynastic politics, and corruption.
This criticism was seen as a direct response to the five guarantees announced by the opposition party.
In addition to his critique of the Congress, Prime Minister Modi targeted the Telangana government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. He referred to the state’s discussions about the “RR tax,” allegedly associated with Reddy, warning that if not addressed, it could have adverse economic consequences for the state.
Modi accused both the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Congress of exploiting Telangana for their own gains.
Furtherly accusing the Congress of engaging in vote bank politics, Modi claimed that the party prioritizes its own electoral interests over the welfare of all citizens. He cited efforts to ban festivals and events, such as the Ramnavami procession in Hyderabad, allegedly aimed at appeasing specific voter demographics at the expense of others.
The Prime Minister’s remarks underscored the escalating political tensions in Telangana ahead of upcoming elections. While Modi’s assertions serve to rally support for his party and discredit the opposition, they also reflect broader debates around taxation, governance, and political strategy in the country.
As the electoral contest heats up, both sides are likely to continue exchanging barbs and promoting their respective agendas to sway voters.
