The Delhi Police Special Cell in its charge-sheet has made some groundbreaking revelations against the news agency Newsclick and its founder Prabir Purkayastha. The Delhi police Special Cell, has alleged that the institution has been involved in terrorist acts, unlawful activities, raising funds for terrorist activities, and conspiracy.
Reports suggest that strong evidence have been found against Prabir Purkayastha of him depicting India without Kashmir in their news bulletin and altering the Chinese map to include Aksai Chin as part of China.
Prabir Purkayastha was also accused of conspiring with Neville Roy Singham and some others of making false claims against the Indian government’s efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19 and publishing articles against vaccines manufactured by the Indian pharmaceutical companies.
In the chargesheet Delhi Police Special Cell has mentioned that under the pretense of protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC), Purkaystha was running a malicious disinformation campaign under NewsClick, and also used his employees to distribute cash to rioters.
He is also accused of fueling the Delhi Riots as well as the farmers’ protests and funding several terrorist organizations. He had linkages with designated terrorist organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba, with whom he also provided financial assistance.
It is alleged that Newsclick received amount of 91 crores which it then used for terrorist activities.
According to revelations by the Special Cell, a scheme dating back to 2016 has come to light, with emails serving as evidence indicating a conspiracy to finance terrorist acts and illicit operations within India.
Prabir Purkayastha, as per the chargesheet, is purported to have close ties with the Communist Party of India (Maoist), classified as a terrorist entity under the First Schedule of the UA(P) Act, 1967.
The Special Cell alleges that investigations have uncovered testimonies from witnesses linking Gautam Navlakha and Prabir Purkayastha to the support and funding of Maoists/Naxalites. Additionally, Purkayastha and his media platform, NewsClick, are accused of orchestrating campaigns against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC), disseminating false information, and inciting hostility through various media channels.
In a significant development, the Patiala House court in Delhi has acknowledged the chargesheet filed by the Delhi Police Special Cell against NewsClick and its founder, Prabir Purkayastha, for allegedly promoting Chinese propaganda.
Acknowledging the cognizance, Additional Sessions Judge Hardeep Kaur has scheduled arguments on charges for May 31. The court underscored that it is taking cognizance of the chargesheet filed for offenses under several sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), along with sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Furthermore, the court has instructed the agency to furnish copies of the chargesheet to the accused parties.
