Nearly about 100 schools in Delhi, along with two in Noida and one in Lucknow, found themselves at the center of a scare as bomb threat emails flooded in on Wednesday morning. This led to chaotic scenes as authorities swiftly started to move students and staff from the premises. However, relief came as the Ministry of Home Affairs labeled the emails as likely hoaxes.
The scare wasn’t limited to Delhi alone; even Lucknow faced a similar threat, with one school in the Vrindavan area receiving a menacing email.
Prompt action ensued, with authorities conducting thorough searches and evacuations to ensure the safety of everyone on campus.
Delhi Police, bomb detection teams, and fire service personnel sprang into action upon receiving the alarming emails. Despite the tense situation, authorities diligently checked each school mentioned in the threats, reassuring parents and students that there was no immediate danger.
Among the targeted institutions were prestigious schools like Delhi Public School (DPS) units in Dwarka and Vasant Kunj, Mother Marry School in East Mayur Vihar, and Sanskriti School. Noida’s DPS and Apeejay School also found themselves on the receiving end of these threats.
School administrations wasted no time in implementing safety measures, swiftly evacuating students and sending them home. Principals emphasized the priority of student safety and urged cooperation from parents during this unsettling situation.
Investigations into the source of the emails pointed towards Russia, with initial findings indicating that the IP address used originated from there. However, suspicions arose that the address might have been masked through a VPN, complicating the tracing process.
Both the Ministry of Home Affairs and Delhi Police sought to reassure the public, asserting that the threats appeared to be false alarms aimed at causing panic. Despite the international origin of the emails, authorities maintained that necessary steps were being taken to address the situation.
Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena, intervened, urging the Delhi Police to swiftly identify and apprehend those responsible for the threats. He emphasized cooperation from parents and promised that perpetrators would face consequences for their actions.
This incident isn’t the first of its kind, as earlier this year, Delhi Public School, RK Puram, also received a bomb threat. However, subsequent police searches yielded no suspicious findings, echoing the false alarm nature of these recent threats.
As investigations continue, authorities remain vigilant, determined to ensure the safety and security of educational institutions and the communities they serve.
