Israel’s FM Israel Katz labeled the move as “anti-semitic and full of hatred” and ripped apart Colombia’s President Gustavo Petrofor severing ties with Israel and describing the Israeli government as “genocidal”.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Wednesday announced that the country would sever diplomatic ties with Israel due to” its prosecution of the war against the Hamas terror group in Gaza”
Katz denounced Petro’s move, accusing him of siding with with the “most abominable monsters known to man, who burned babies, killed children, raped woman, and abducted innocent civilians”.
Petro had previously threatened to break ties with Israel in March if it did not comply with a UN Security Council resolution for a Gaza cease-fire, following which Petro in February suspended Colombia’s purchase of Israeli weapons
The escalating tensions reflect broader global divisions over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with Petro’s actions drawing both support and criticism internationally.
Colombia becomes the second Latin American nation to break its ties with Israel after Bolivia cut its ties in November, a month after the Hamas terror group stormed the Israeli border, brutally killing civilians and taking away hostages.
