As the war between Israel and Hamas continues to rage, Bharat reiterated its support for a two-state solution for Palestinians during a United Nations General Assembly meeting on Wednesday.
Ruchira Kamboj, Bharat’s Permanent Representative to the UN, expressed hope for Palestine’s membership reconsideration at the UN, highlighting Bharat’s longstanding position favoring a peaceful resolution through direct negotiations between both sides.
While condemning the large-scale violence in the ongoing conflict, particularly the loss of civilian lives, including women and children, Kamboj emphasized Bharat’s backing for Palestinians’ rights to live freely in an independent country with secured borders and also considered Israel’s security needs.
Denouncing Hamas’ terror attacks on Israel on October 7, Kamboj called for unequivocal condemnation and stressed the importance of respecting international law and humanitarian principles.
Notably, the US recently vetoed a UNSC resolution supporting Palestinian statehood, drawing international attention. Bharat hopes for Palestine’s UN membership endorsement in due course, underscoring its commitment to a peaceful resolution and adherence to international norms amidst the ongoing conflict.
