In a significant development, West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose has issued an order on Thursday night, prohibiting the entry of both the police and Minister of State for Finance, Chandrima Bhattacharya, into the Raj Bhavan premises.
This action follows swiftly after a temporary female staff member at the Raj Bhavan filed a written complaint with the police, alleging that the Governor had outraged her modesty. Meanwhile, Bose termed the accused as part of an “engineered narrative” and said that he won’t be cowed down. He also stressed on the fact that his image was being tarnished in order to gain electoral benefits.
“Truth shall triumph. I refuse to be cowed down by engineered narratives. If anybody wants some election benefits by maligning me, God bless them. But they can not stop my fight against corruption and violence in Bengal – Governor,” Bose was quoted as saying by ANI.
A statement released by the Governor’s office stated, “For defamation and anti-constitutional media statements against Governor C.V. Ananda Bose, a junior gubernatorial appointee Chandrima Bhattacharya, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Department of Finance, has been banned entry into the Raj Bhavan premises in Kolkata, Darjeeling, and Barrackpore.”
Ms. Bhattacharya was quick to respond to the allegations against the Governor, expressing her concern about the situation unfolding at the Raj Bhavan, particularly on a day when the Prime Minister was scheduled to visit the state.
Furthermore, the statement from the Raj Bhavan clarified that the Governor would refrain from participating in any function attended by the Minister.
Additionally, the Governor has restricted the entry of police into the Raj Bhavan premises, citing concerns about unauthorized and politically motivated investigations during the electoral period.
The statement indicated that the Attorney General of India has been consulted for legal guidance on potential further actions against the Minister.
In an earlier statement issued on Thursday evening, the Governor vehemently denied the allegations of molestation, dismissing them as an attempt to gain electoral advantages. He affirmed his commitment to combating corruption and violence in West Bengal despite the orchestrated narratives against him.
