Bharat has strongly criticized Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly for its “destructive and pernicious” remarks. The Bharatiya Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, responded sharply to comments made by Pakistan’s UN envoy Munir Akram during the meeting on ‘Culture of Peace’.
Kamboj dismissed Pakistan’s comments, stating they lacked decorum and detracted from constructive dialogue efforts.
Kamboj urged Pakistan to align with principles of respect and diplomacy. She questioned Pakistan’s track record, noting its dubious nature across all aspects. The Bharatiya envoy highlighted the significance of focusing on constructive dialogue amid challenging times, rather than engaging in destructive rhetoric.
Terrorism was strongly condemned by Kamboj, who emphasized its opposition to the culture of peace and the core teachings of all religions. She called for active collaboration among member states to nurture a genuine culture of peace and promote universal values of respect and harmony.
Addressing significant global challenges, Kamboj highlighted growing intolerance, discrimination, and violence based on religion or belief.
She expressed concern over escalating attacks on sacred sites worldwide, stressing the need for a swift and united response from the international community.
Kamboj underscored Bharat’s commitment to peace, citing Mahatma Gandhi’s doctrine of Ahimsa as a fundamental principle. Bharat, known for its religious and linguistic diversity, has historically embraced tolerance and coexistence.
Festivals like Diwali, Eid, Christmas, and Nowruz reflect shared joys among diverse communities.
Bharat commended Bangladesh for presenting a resolution on ‘Follow-up to the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace’, which Bharat proudly co-sponsored. The resolution aims to address challenges to global peace and promote dialogue and understanding among countries.
