Former Congress party member Radhika Khera has spoken out against the party leadership, alleging mistreatment and a departure from its traditional values.
Khera, who resigned from the party, criticized the silence of key figures including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge, stating that their inaction troubled her deeply. She expressed disappointment over what she perceives as the party’s abandonment of its original principles.
Khera particularly highlighted the slogan “Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon” (I am a girl, I can fight), coined by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, stating that it now rings hollow within the party. She accused the party of adopting a new slogan, “Ladki ho toh pitogi” (If you’re a girl, you’ll get beaten), suggesting a departure from the empowerment rhetoric previously espoused.
The former Congress member also criticized Rahul Gandhi’s recent Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra (Justice Unity March), labeling it as mere travel vlogging.
She alleged that the yatra, purportedly aimed at justice and unity, was more for Gandhi’s personal publicity than addressing substantive issues.
Khera in her resignation letter to the All India Congress Committee (AICC), lamented the mistreatment she faced within the party. She cited an incident where she visited the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, which apparently led to backlash from party members.
Khera claimed that despite her years of dedication to the party, she was met with opposition and denied justice for her actions.
Khera highlighted the significance of the Ram Temple for Hindus, emphasizing its sacredness and importance in Hindu belief. She accused some within the party of opposing those who express support for religious sentiments, drawing parallels to historical figures who faced similar opposition for their beliefs.
Expressing her frustration at the lack of response from party leadership despite her attempts to seek redress, Khera concluded that her resignation was a result of being denied justice within the party she had dedicated over two decades of her life to.
The resignation of Radhika Khera, coupled with her scathing critique of the Congress party’s leadership and ideological shift, underscores growing dissent within the ranks of the party.
It also raises questions about the party’s direction and its ability to retain members who feel marginalized or disillusioned.
