While addressing at Gargi College on Vishwa Bandhu Bharat, EAM Dr S Jaishankar said, ‘We had the Russia-Ukraine conflict in February 2022 and we had requested students to come home’.
Jaishankar added, ‘Many of them were anxious about their exams and practicals. The majority of students stayed and found themselves in the conflict zone’.
S Jaishankar further said, ‘They were in different cultures and different cities. We faced the challenge that we faced with how to bring students from a conflict zone. One was the surety that many people can come as soon as possible. There was shooting, and bombardment going and we have to get the governments of other countries to cooperate with us’.

Notably earlier, the Centre took the decision that Union ministers Hardeep Puri, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kiren Rijiju and V K Singh will travel to its neighbouring countries to coordinate the evacuation mission and help students. They went as special envoys of Bharat.
Jaishankar added, this is what a Vishwa Bandhu foreign policy works like and we had to continuously contact the five countries which were neighbouring there’. Earlier, PM Modi recounted how the Bharatiya tricolor served as his guarantee during the evacuation of Bharatiyas from Ukraine amid the conflict with Russia’.
During an interview, PM Modi said, ‘I have been very friendly with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine. I can say publicly to Russia President Vladimir Putin that this is not the time for war. I can also say publicly to Ukraine that we should follow the path of dialogue’.
PM Modi also talked about the significance of Bharatiya flag and said, ‘The power of the Bharatiya flag was so much that even a foreigner used to hold the Bharatiya flag in his hand’.
