According to the MEA, Minister Zameer is set to meet with Bharatiya External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to delve into matters concerning both the countries, particularly focusing on bilateral and regional issues. The Maldivian Minister’s visit holds significance as Maldives stands as a key maritime neighbor for Bharat in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), making cooperation pivotal.
The visit coincides with Bharat’s commitment to withdraw its military personnel from Maldives by May 10. Previous discussions between the two nations during the fourth meeting of the bilateral High-Level Core Group emphasized the timeline for the replacement of Bharatiya military personnel, aligning with Maldives’ formal request for troop withdrawal.
Both sides have reviewed existing bilateral cooperation during Zameer’s visit, covering a spectrum of issues such as development and defense cooperation. Notably, discussions acknowledged Bharat’s prompt action in replacing military personnel stationed in the Maldives, ensuring logistical arrangements proceeded as scheduled.

The recent developments affirm a cooperative spirit between Bharat and Maldives, with plans underway for the fifth meeting of the High-Level Core Group in Male during June or July. The strategic partnership between the two countries extends beyond military cooperation, encompassing humanitarian and medical evacuation services provided by Bharatiya aviation platforms.
Bharat’s proactive measures in replacing defense personnel underscore the commitment to honoring agreements while fostering goodwill with Maldives. The ongoing discussions reflect a shared goal of nurturing a strong and mutually beneficial relationship between the two neighboring countries, despite the recent political shifts in Maldives.
As the situation evolves, both Bharat and Maldives remain committed to dialogue and cooperation, ensuring stability and progress in the region. With continued engagement at diplomatic levels, the visit of Minister Zameer signifies a step forward in strengthening ties and fostering goodwill between Bharat and Maldives.
