During the Europe Day Celebrations in New Delhi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized the significance of the relationship between India and the European Union (EU), describing it as “consequential for the world.” He highlighted the multifaceted nature of the ties between the two entities, spanning various domains beyond economics.
Jaishankar expressed appreciation for the EU’s role as India’s largest economic partner and emphasized the depth of the relationship, extending beyond bilateral engagements to include regional and sub-regional collaborations and participation in various international institutions.
As the chief guest at the event commemorating Europe Day, Jaishankar underscored the importance of resilient and reliable supply chains in today’s global landscape, emphasizing the need for stronger digital cooperation and efforts to bolster the global economy.

Acknowledging the EU’s contributions to initiatives like the India-Middle-East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), Jaishankar expressed India’s commitment to furthering cooperation in this regard.
He also noted the growing interest of the EU and individual European states in the Indo-Pacific region, welcoming their approach and engagement in addressing regional challenges.
Reflecting on the G20 Summit chaired by India in September last year, Jaishankar highlighted the increased security engagement between India and the EU, appreciating their contributions to global fora like the G20 and G7.
In his address, European Union envoy Herve Delphin echoed Jaishankar’s sentiments, emphasizing India’s growing importance for the EU. He expressed optimism about further deepening the partnership between India and the EU in the face of global challenges.
Delphin’s remarks were underscored by recent developments, including the signing of the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) between India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) member states, aimed at promoting investments and facilitating job creation in India.
The statements from both Jaishankar and Delphin underscored the mutual commitment of India and the EU to strengthening their relationship across various sectors, reflecting the evolving dynamics of global diplomacy and cooperation.
