Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Teej, is a significant Hindu and Jain spring festival. ‘This date falls sometime between April and May’, as per the Gregorian calendar.
This year, Akshaya Tritiya is being celebrated on Friday. In Hindu mythology, there are many beliefs and legends about the festival. One of the popular legends says on this day Lord Kuber was appointed as the treasurer of heaven. Akshaya Tritiya also coincides with Parshuram Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Lord Parshuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
In Jainism, Akshaya Tritiya starts the day when the first Tirthankara, Rishabhanatha, ended his one-year asceticism by drinking sugarcane juice poured into his cupped hands by King Shreyans.
