Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed the head of the state guards, Serhiy Rud, following allegations of a foiled assassination plot against him. This decision came after the State Security Service (SBU) revealed earlier this week that they had uncovered a sinister plan to harm Zelenskyy and other high-ranking officials.
According to reports, the SBU disclosed that two individuals, both colonels within the state guard, had conspired to take President Zelenskyy hostage and subsequently carry out his assassination.
This shocking revelation has sent shockwaves throughout the nation and raised concerns about the security of top government officials.
Moreover, it has been reported that key figures including SBU head Vasyl Maliuk and Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the military intelligence agency, were also targets of this assassination plot. The gravity of the situation underscores the ongoing challenges faced by Zelenskyy’s administration amidst tensions with Russia and internal struggles.
According to the reports, two Ukrainian security officials have been detained in connection with the alleged plot. These individuals, identified as colonels within the government protection unit, stand accused of engaging in subversive activities and treason against Ukraine.
One of the suspects has also been charged with preparing a terrorist act, highlighting the severity of the accusations.
The Prosecutor General’s office revealed damning evidence implicating one of the suspects, who allegedly received drones and ammunition from Russia’s State Security Service (FSB). This alarming revelation raises questions about potential foreign involvement in the attempted assassination and underscores the complex geopolitical dynamics at play.
While Russia has yet to officially respond to the allegations made by the SBU, suspicions linger regarding possible connections between the detained individuals and Russian intelligence agencies.
The sharing of sensitive information with the FSB further exacerbates concerns about espionage and foreign interference in Ukrainian affairs.
President Zelenskyy’s administration has faced heightened scrutiny and internal turmoil. This latest incident underscores the urgent need for bolstered security measures and heightened vigilance to safeguard against threats to Ukraine’s sovereignty and stability.
