Following the footsteps of Sam Piroda and Farooq Abdullah, Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar has once again stirred controversy for the party. In a recent interview, siding with the terror-sponsoring nation, Pakistan, Aiyyar suggested that India should engage in dialogue with Pakistan and respect them, because they have “nuclear weapons”. This marks the second instance within a week where a Congress member has made statements causing them major embarrassment. Former Indian Overseas Congress chairman, Sam Pitroda, stirred controversy by making a racial statement.
In a similar vein, Mani Shankar Aiyar has reiterated his affection for Pakistan, heaping praise on Islamabad’s nuclear weapons. He emphasized that Pakistan, like any sovereign nation, deserves respect. He advocates for open dialogue, rather than resorting to armed conflict, which only escalates tensions. BJP spokesperson Poonawala launched a sharp attack on senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, accusing him of cozying up to Pakistan. Poonawala alleged Aiyar’s past attempts to remove Narendra Modi as Prime Minister by seeking Pakistan’s support. Criticizing Congress leaders, Poonawala accused them of whitewashing Pakistan’s role in major terror attacks on India like – 26/11, Pulwama and Poonch attack and demeaning the Indian Army.
Similarly, BJP MP Ravi Kishan suggested that former Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar “needs medical attention” after Aiyar advocated for showing respect to Pakistan Kishan criticized Aiyar’s stance, emphasizing India’s strength under PM Modi’s leadership.
