In the ongoing fight against Maoist insurgency, security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district engaged in a fierce encounter resulting in the demise of twelve Maoist insurgents.

The Chief Minister, Vishnu Deo Sai, confirmed the incident, marking it as a notable achievement in the state’s anti-Naxal operation.

This encounter brings the tally of Maoist casualties for the year 2024 to over a hundred. Prior to this encounter, until the end of April, security forces had accounted for the deaths of 91 Maoists. However, the recent engagement has pushed the number to 103, marking it as the highest recorded Maoist casualty figure since 2019.

Comparing, in 2018, security forces had successfully eliminated 112 Maoists, showcasing a relentless effort in combating the insurgency. Further, in 2016, a total of 134 Maoists were neutralized, noting the determination of the state apparatus in curbing the Maoist threat since the formation of the state.

The encounter occurred in the Gangaloor area, falling within the jurisdiction of the Pedia police station in Bijapur district, which is recognized as a Maoist stronghold. The successful operation signifies a significant blow to the Maoist presence in the region and reflects the effectiveness of security measures in combating insurgency.

Expressing his commendation for the security forces’ efforts, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai reiterated the government’s commitment to eradicating Naxalism from the state. He attributed the success of the operation to the steadfast resolve of both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in ending Naxalism.

The Chief Minister underscored the collaborative efforts of the state and central governments, referring to it as the ‘double engine sarkar,’ which is yielding positive outcomes in the fight against insurgency.

The relentless pursuit of security forces in countering Maoist activities underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the region.

The recent encounter serves as a testament to the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between various security agencies and the government’s determination to eliminate the Maoist menace from Chhattisgarh.
