As the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections unfolds across 96 constituencies spanning nine states and one Union Territory, initial reports indicate a voter turnout of 24.87 per cent by 11 am.
Data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) reveals varying voter participation rates across the regions. West Bengal leads the tally with the highest voter turnout at 32.78 per cent, while Jammu and Kashmir trails behind with the lowest turnout recorded at 14.94 per cent.
Meanwhile, other states recorded the following voter turnout percentages: Madhya Pradesh (32.38%), Andhra Pradesh (23.10%), Bihar (22.54%), Jharkhand (27.40%), Odisha (23.28%), Maharashtra (17.51%), Telangana (24.31%), and Uttar Pradesh (27.12%).
The voting process commenced at 7:00 am, with polling taking place simultaneously for all 175 seats of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly and 28 seats of the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
Of the 96 Lok Sabha seats up for grabs, Andhra Pradesh accounts for 25, followed by Telangana with 17 seats, Uttar Pradesh with 13, Maharashtra with 11, and eight each from Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal. Bihar and Odisha have five seats each, while Jharkhand and four each and Jammu and Kashmir have one.
A total of 4,264 nominations were filed for the 96 parliamentary constituencies, reflecting the keen interest of candidates in the electoral process.
The fourth phase witnesses crucial contests in various constituencies, with prominent leaders from different parties vying for electoral success. Notable figures include AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, and BJP leader Giriraj Singh, among others.
