Israel’s Foreign Affairs Minister on Tuesday urged Egypt to reopen the Rafah border crossing with Gaza to ensure the continuous flow of international humanitarian aid. Israel Katz emphasized the importance of Egypt’s cooperation in preventing a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
Katz emphasized that the responsibility for addressing the humanitarian situation in Gaza lies with Egypt. He stated that foreign critics who solely blame Israel for the conditions in Gaza are misguided, highlighting the crucial role of Egypt in facilitating aid delivery.
Katz made it clear that Israel insists on maintaining security control over the Rafah crossing and will not allow Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist group, to take control. He emphasized that ensuring security at the crossing is non-negotiable for Israel.
The Rafah border crossing serves as a vital entry point for humanitarian aid and supplies into the Gaza Strip. Its closure or restricted operation can exacerbate the already dire humanitarian situation in the region, affecting the lives of thousands of Palestinians.
Efforts to reopen the Rafah crossing have been ongoing amid concerns about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. International organizations and countries have called for increased cooperation to alleviate the suffering of civilians in the besieged territory.
Cooperation between Israel, Egypt, and other stakeholders is essential to find sustainable solutions to the challenges facing the Gaza Strip.
