Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a fierce attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during a rally on Tuesday. He accused her of abandoning her original promise of serving “Maa, Maati, Manush” (Mother, Motherland, and People) and instead catering to “Mullah, Madrasa, and Mafia.”
Shah criticized the TMC government for providing monthly honorariums to Muslim clerics (Imams) but not offering any financial support to Hindu priests and temple custodians. He pointed out that while Muslim processions during Muharram face no obstacles, Hindu religious processions during Durga Puja and Kali Puja often encounter roadblocks.

Accusations of Vote Bank Politics
The Home Minister also attacked Mamata Banerjee for not attending the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, claiming she did so to appease a particular vote bank. Shah suggested that Banerjee is more concerned about infiltrators and her vote bank than her own people.
Shah accused the Chief Minister of spreading false information about the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He assured the people that the CAA aims to grant asylum and permanent residency to persecuted minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, and it would not harm any legitimate citizens of India.
He alleged that the TMC is trying to make infiltrators into citizens while opposing the CAA, which aims to help oppressed minorities like the Matuas who migrated from Bangladesh.
Addressing the Matua community, which has a significant presence in Bongaon, Shah promised that they would benefit from the CAA if the BJP wins in Bengal. He expressed confidence that Prime Minister Modi had already secured an absolute majority in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
Warning to Mamata Banerjee
Shah warned that those involved in various scams under the TMC rule would not be spared. He mentioned issues like “cut money” culture, infiltration, bomb blasts, harassment by goons linked to Mamata’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee, and the overall lawlessness in Bengal. He promised that under Narendra Modi’s leadership, Bengal would be saved from further decline.
Amit Shah was campaigning for BJP candidate Shantanu Thakur, who is running against TMC’s Biswajit Das for a seat in the Lok Sabha from Bongaon. He emphasized the importance of the remaining phases of polling in Bengal and urged voters to support the BJP.
The polling in West Bengal is being conducted in seven phases, with the vote counting scheduled for June 4. Shah’s speech is part of the BJP’s broader campaign strategy to secure a significant number of seats in the state.
