Swati Maliwal, a sitting Rajya Sabha MP and prominent figure in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has come forward with harrowing allegations of assault. Maliwal, in her statement to the Delhi Police, recounted a disturbing altercation that occurred within the confines of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence earlier this week.
As per Maliwal’s statement, the altercation escalated when she was allegedly pushed back by Bibhav Kumar, Chief Minister Kejriwal’s personal secretary and close aide. Maliwal claims that the situation quickly turned violent, with her being subjected to physical abuse, including kicks and hits to her chest.
Moreover, Maliwal asserted that she was verbally abused during the altercation, with Bibhav Kumar allegedly hurling derogatory language at her. The gravity of the situation prompted Maliwal to bring these allegations to the attention of the Delhi Police.
A team of Delhi Police, led by an Additional Commissioner of Police rank officer, meticulously recorded Maliwal’s statement for a duration of four-and-a-half hours. The statement, spanning two-and-a-half pages, provides a detailed account of the alleged assault that transpired inside the residence of the Delhi Chief Minister.
Top sources within the Delhi Police have confirmed that steps are underway to file a First Information Report (FIR) against Bibhav Kumar in connection with Maliwal’s allegations. The FIR is expected to be lodged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) pertaining to outraging the modesty of a woman and assault.
Maliwal’s statement, initially recorded under the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) section 161, is now being converted into an FIR to initiate legal proceedings against the accused. The unfolding events have sparked widespread outrage and renewed discussions surrounding the safety and treatment of women in positions of authority.
The allegations put forth by Swati Maliwal against a high-profile figure within the AAP have not only cast a shadow over the party but also raised pertinent questions regarding the conduct of individuals in positions of power.
As investigations progress and legal action is pursued, the case remains a stark reminder of the importance of addressing and condemning acts of violence and harassment against women.
