During his speech ahead of a concert commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Moscow and Beijing and the commencement of the Cross-Cultural Years, Putin likened the relationship to a song from the 1940s. “There is a famous song from that time, created 75 years ago, often sung today: ‘Russian and Chinese are brothers forever,'” Putin remarked.
The Russian President expressed confidence in the continued cordiality and strengthening of the Russia-China partnership. “I am sure that we will continue to strengthen the fraternal spirit of the harmonious Russian-Chinese partnership,” he said. The audience, who heard his speech first in Russian and then in Chinese translation, applauded enthusiastically on both occasions.
Putin arrived in Harbin on Wednesday, following a busy day in Beijing where he held several rounds of talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The discussions covered the state of Russian-Chinese relations and pressing international issues, TASS reported.
In Harbin, Putin inaugurated the 8th Russian-Chinese Expo and the 4th Russia-China Forum on Interregional Cooperation. His visit also included attending trade and cooperation forums in Heilongjiang’s capital, a region historically troubled by border tensions but now experiencing increased connectivity and closer economic and cultural ties.
Putin’s visit highlights the ongoing commitment to fostering robust bilateral relations between the two neighboring giants.
