Recently in an interview news agency, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov voiced concerns over what he perceives as the United States’ escalating actions toward Russia regarding the situation in Ukraine.
Ryabkov warned that the U.S. has effectively entered a state of “indirect war” with Russia and is risking a situation that could spiral out of control.
Ryabkov highlighted that the U.S. must recognize the gravity of its actions, cautioning that their pursuit of geopolitical goals could lead to a crisis that becomes increasingly difficult to manage. He accused the U.S. of failing to comprehend the potential consequences of its behavior, particularly in relation to Ukraine.
The Russian diplomat’s comments come amid growing tensions between Russia and the West over Ukraine. While Ukraine and Western countries accuse Russia of aggression and unprovoked attacks in Ukraine, Moscow maintains that its actions are defensive measures aimed at safeguarding its security against perceived threats from the West.

Recent remarks from Western diplomats, including British Foreign Secretary David Cameron and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, have further fueled tensions. Cameron’s statement during a visit to Kyiv suggesting that Ukraine has the right to use British-supplied weapons against Russia, along with Blinken’s similar remarks regarding U.S.-supplied weapons, have drawn strong reactions from Moscow.
Russia’s Defense Ministry recently announced drills to rehearse the use of tactical nuclear weapons, citing concerns over Western rhetoric and actions. The move has raised alarm bells in the international community, heightening fears of a potential escalation in the conflict.
In addition, steps taken by the U.S. and the European Union to explore the possibility of using frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine have further strained relations between Moscow and the West.
Russia has accused the U.S. of pressuring European nations into taking aggressive measures against it.
Ryabkov criticized what he described as the West’s strategy of strategic ambiguity towards Russia, lamenting the lack of clarity in NATO’s response to various scenarios, including those involving nuclear weapons. He warned that Russia would respond in kind to any provocations from the West, signaling a potential escalation in tensions.
Russian diplomacy with the West is focused on crisis management and preventing further escalation into a full-scale conflict. However, the prospects for de-escalation remain uncertain as tensions continue to mount over Ukraine.
