According to a passenger, the incident began with a cracking sound inside the bus, followed by a foul burning smell. A two-wheeler rider alerted the bus driver about the fire at the back of the vehicle, prompting the driver to stop. Passengers quickly evacuated, but the fire spread rapidly, engulfing the bus in flames within minutes.
Eyewitnesses reported that emergency services arrived almost three hours after the fire broke out. The bus, carrying around 60 passengers from Punjab and Chandigarh, was returning from a pilgrimage to Mathura-Vrindavan.
Haryana’s Nuh MLA Aftab Ahmed expressed his condolences, calling the incident “painful, sad, and heart-wrenching.” He noted that the bus carried elderly people, women, and children among its passengers.
“We don’t know how the fire started. Ten people have died. There were 64 people on the bus,” said Meena Rani, an injured passenger.
Local authorities and the fire department were immediately notified of the incident, and those injured are receiving medical care at Nuh Medical College. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
