Ongoing Lok Sabha elections, fifth phase witnessed 56.68% voter turnout across various states and union territories till 5 pm, as shared by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
West Bengal took the lead with a remarkable 73% turnout, followed closely by Ladakh at 67.15%. Jharkhand, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh also showed active participation with turnouts ranging from 55.80% to 61.90%.
However, Mumbai continued to trail behind with all its constituencies failing to cross the 50% mark by 5 pm.
In Mumbai, voter turnout remained disappointingly low, with percentages ranging from 44.22% to 49.79% across different constituencies. Mumbai South recorded the lowest turnout at 44.22%, highlighting a concerning trend of urban apathy towards voting.
The lackluster participation in urban areas like Mumbai, Thane, and Lucknow underscores the need for increased voter awareness and engagement campaigns.
