- Raja Ram Mohan Roy was born on May 22, 1772, in the Bengal Presidency’s Hooghly District and was also known as the ‘Father of Indian Renaissance’.
- Roy’s major accomplishments include the abolishment of the Sati System, child marriage, caste system, and polygamy.
- He was a great supporter of property inheritance rights for women and founded the Brahmo Sabha, a movement of reformist Bengali Brahmins to fight against several things ailing our society.
- Roy was married thrice and had two sons Radhaprasad and Ramaprasad with his second wife. His first two wives died early while his third wife outlived him.
- Raja Ram Mohan Roy disclosed first how much money was being taken out of Bharat and where it went.
- Remarkably, Roy was bestowed the title of ‘Raja’ by Mughal ruler Akbar II in 1830, after he went to England to advocate for the pension issues of the Mughal emperor of Delhi.
