Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal during a recent rally in Delhi. He focused on a recent judgment by the Calcutta High Court, which invalidated all OBC (Other Backward Classes) certificates issued in the state after 2010.
Modi accused the Trinamool Congress of exploiting OBC certificates for political gains, alleging that they were distributed to Muslims solely to secure their votes.
Modi, addressing the crowd in Dwarka, asserted that the Calcutta High Court’s ruling was a repercussion of the Trinamool Congress’ alleged practice of appeasing the Muslim community for electoral advantages. He criticized what he called “vote bank politics” and “politics of appeasement,” highlighting that such tactics were detrimental to the integrity of the country’s democratic processes.
Today, the Kolkata High Court has given a tight slap to the INDI Alliance. The court has cancelled all the OBC certificates issued after 2010 in Bengal. Adding on, Modi accused the opposition of engaging in similar practices, alleging that government lands were being handed over to the Waqf Board in exchange for votes.
PM Modi claimed that there were efforts to allocate a disproportionate share of resources and benefits to minorities, citing examples such as the reservation of budgets and preferences in bank loans and government tenders based on religious affiliations.
In his address, Modi also took aim at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, referring to him as “Shehzada” (prince). He seized upon a recent statement by Gandhi where he acknowledged historical injustices faced by Dalits, backwards, and Adivasis under previous Congress administrations.

Modi interpreted this admission as an indictment of the Congress’ legacy, alleging that its policies had systematically disadvantaged marginalized communities for generations.
PM Modi’s remarks underscored the intensifying political rhetoric ahead of crucial elections in West Bengal and other states. The issue of OBC certificates and allegations of religious favoritism have become central themes in the electoral discourse, reflecting broader concerns about identity politics and social justice in Bharat.
As campaigning heats up, parties are increasingly leveraging such controversies to mobilize support and discredit their opponents.
