Bharat and the UK have joined forces, vowing to combat the scourge in all its forms. At the 16th meeting of the Bharat-UK joint working group on counter-terrorism held in Delhi, the two countries underscored the imperative of bolstering international cooperation to tackle terrorism comprehensively.
During the meeting, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) disclosed that both sides extensively discussed the terrorist and extremist threats prevalent in their respective territories and regions.
This encompassed the menace posed by globally sanctioned terrorist entities and individuals. The consensus reached emphasized the necessity for intensified collaboration in the fight against terrorism.
A joint statement issued by the MEA highlighted the unequivocal condemnation of terrorism by both Bharat and the UK. The statement demonstrated the need to confront terrorism’s cross-border movement and stressed the importance of upholding international cooperation, in accordance with the UN charter and international law.
Furthermore, the deliberations extended to the proscription of individual terrorists and entities as a strategic tool in combating terrorism, alongside exploring avenues for collaboration in multilateral forums.
The discussions encapsulated a broad spectrum of counter-terrorism challenges, including countering radicalization, preventing the financing of terrorism, and addressing the exploitation of emerging technologies for nefarious purposes.
The Bharatiya delegation, led by KD Dewal, Joint Secretary for Counter Terrorism at the MEA, engaged in constructive dialogues with their British counterparts. Chris Felton, heading the Counter Terrorism Network for Asia and Oceania of the UK, led the British delegation, marking a significant step towards bolstering bilateral cooperation.
Both countries reiterated their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation to effectively address the shared challenges posed by terrorism. The convergence of perspectives and concerted efforts underscored the resolve of Bharat and the UK in combating terrorism, paving the way for a more secure and resilient global landscape.
