Officials reported on Thursday that slogans calling for an election boycott and praising Naxalism were discovered sprayed on walls across the Delhi University area ahead of the May 25 Lok Sabha elections in the national capital. The Delhi Police have registered two FIRs in connection with the incident.
During their morning patrol, police noticed slogans such as “Boycott elections, join new democracy” and “Long live Naxalbari” on university walls and police barricades. The Bhagat Singh Chhatra Ekta Manch (BSCEM), a self-proclaimed youth organization, claimed responsibility for the graffiti, posting photos of the defaced walls on their Instagram page.
The police have initiated an investigation under the Prevention of Defacement of Property Act. “Two FIRs under the Defacement Act were registered,” confirmed Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Manoj Kumar Meena.
The discovery comes just a day before Delhi voters head to the polls for all seven parliamentary seats. Vote counting is scheduled for June 4.
