In a recent poll rally in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced his support for the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The UCC proposes a common set of laws that would apply to all citizens regardless of their religious affiliations.
Addressing the crowd, Modi emphasized the need for uniformity in laws governing crucial aspects like marriage, divorce, inheritance, and maintenance.
Modi criticized the Congress party, alleging that it backs Islamic law Sharia under the guise of the Muslim Personal Law. He accused the Congress of obstructing the implementation of the UCC, citing their support for Sharia law.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of equal treatment under the law for citizens of all religious backgrounds, including Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, and Buddhists.
During his speech, Modi also expressed his support for Kangana Ranaut, BJP’s candidate from Mandi constituency in the Lok Sabha elections. He praised Ranaut as a symbol of youth aspirations and referred to her as “our daughters”.
Modi urged the people of Mandi to respond to derogatory statements made by Congress against Ranaut, describing them as insults to Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, and every daughter of the state.
Modi accused the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh of misappropriating central aid intended for victims of last year’s floods. He promised to investigate the alleged selective distribution of funds once the BJP returns to power.
As per the BJP claims, the Centre had allocated ₹1,762 crore for flood victims, along with funds for road construction and housing. The BJP alleges that Congress distributed these funds unfairly, benefiting only a few individuals.
Prime Minister Modi’s rally in Mandi highlighted his advocacy for a Uniform Civil Code and his criticism of Congress’s stance on the issue. Modi’s support for Kangana Ranaut and his promise to investigate the alleged misappropriation of flood relief funds also featured prominently in his speech. As the election season progresses, such issues are likely to shape the political discourse in the region.
