As the Lok Sabha elections 2024 progress, the sixth phase is all set to take place on May 25th. This phase encompasses 58 constituencies spread across eight states and Union Territories. A total of 889 candidates are vying for the voters’ mandate in this phase.
Campaigning for these constituencies concluded recently, marking the countdown to the final phase of polls on June 1st.
This phase holds significant importance as it includes all seven seats in Delhi, alongside constituencies from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand.
Among these, Delhi witnesses a keenly contested battle for all seven seats, with prominent leaders like Manoj Tiwari from BJP and Kanhaiya Kumar from Congress locking horns in North East Delhi.
The voter turnout in the previous phases has been noteworthy, although Phase 5 recorded a slight dip. As per the Election Commission, the turnout for Phase 5 stood at 62.2%, lower than the preceding phases. However, this doesn’t deter the enthusiasm among voters as they gear up to exercise their democratic right in Phase 6.
An interesting facet of Phase 6 is the financial profile of the candidates. The Association of Democratic Reforms revealed that approximately 39% of the candidates in this phase are crorepatis, with an average asset worth of Rs 6.21 crore. This sheds light on the economic diversity among those contesting for parliamentary seats.
Key contenders in Phase 6 include notable figures like Dharmendra Pradhan from BJP contesting in Sambalpur (Odisha), Manohar Lal Khattar, the former Haryana Chief Minister, seeking re-election from Karnal, and Naveen Jindal in Kurukshetra, among others. These leaders are pivotal in shaping the political landscape in their respective constituencies.
With 428 constituencies already having cast their ballots, the electoral process is nearing its culmination. However, the upcoming phases, including Phase 6, hold the key to determining the political trajectory of the nation.
As voters in these constituencies prepare to cast their votes, all eyes are on the results, scheduled to be announced on June 4th, heralding the dawn of a new parliamentary era.
