Taking a jibe at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during an election rally in Khanna, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh mocks the AAP leader’s situation by saying it was the first time he had heard of “work from jail.”
Addressing the rally in support of BJP’s Fatehgarh Sahib candidate, Gejja Ram Valmiki, Singh referenced Kejriwal’s arrest in a money laundering case linked to the alleged excise policy scam.
Singh highlighted that while Kejriwal continues to serve as Chief Minister, he was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court until June 1, with an order to return to jail on June 2. “We know about work from office, I have heard about work from home, but this is the first time I am hearing about work from jail,” Singh quipped.
He criticized Kejriwal for not resigning amid the allegations, stating that leaders should have the moral courage to step down until they are cleared. Singh also recalled the origins of AAP, noting that Kejriwal ignored Anna Hazare’s advice against using the anti-corruption movement for political gains.
Singh further accused Kejriwal of turning the chief minister’s residence into a lavish “sheesh mahal” using public funds, contradicting his earlier promises of simplicity. Additionally, Singh referenced the alleged assault on AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal by Kejriwal’s aide, questioning Kejriwal’s silence and fitness to continue as Chief Minister.
Attacking Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, Singh implied that Mann’s situation might be similar to Kejriwal’s, given his allegiance to the AAP leader. Punjab’s 13 Lok Sabha seats are set to vote on June 1, adding significance to Singh’s remarks.
