Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took a sharp dig at former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav while campaigning in Patna for BJP candidate Ravi Shankar Prasad. Yogi Adityanath accused Lalu Prasad Yadav’s party, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), of wanting to return to the “lantern age” to facilitate corruption under the cover of darkness.
Addressing a public meeting on Tuesday, CM Yogi mentioned this was his fourth visit to Bihar for the ongoing election campaign. He stated that wherever he traveled in Bihar, people expressed their support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi by saying, “Jo Ram ko laaye hain, hum unko laayenge,” highlighting Modi’s connection to the Ram Mandir issue.
Yogi also praised Ravi Shankar Prasad for his legal efforts in support of the Ram Mandir across various courts.
Yogi Adityanath mocked the RJD’s election symbol, the lantern, suggesting that the party’s desire to bring back the lantern age was a strategy to allow looting to occur under the cover of darkness. He contrasted this with Modi’s efforts to propel India into the digital age.
The UP Chief Minister continued his criticism by suggesting that the Congress and RJD should “go to Pakistan” rather than be a burden on Bharat. He criticized the previous Congress government for failing to address terrorism effectively, pointing out past terror attacks in Ayodhya, Kashi, and Patna.
UP CM Yogi said, “…How your one vote can change the image and destiny of the country, you have seen it…10 years ago…There was no safety and respect, there was no development and welfare of people. In the morning newspaper, first headline used to be about corruption of the Congress and RJD govts and by evening there used to be news of some big terror attack…”

Yogi claimed that under Modi’s leadership, even minor incidents in India prompt immediate denials from Pakistan, showcasing the strength of the current government.
Yogi Adityanath lauded the Modi-led government for providing free rations to 80 crore people in India, contrasting this with the situation in Pakistan, where he claimed people would not even receive alms.
Highlighting the BJP’s commitment to building temples, Yogi stated that only a “Ram Bhakt” (devotee of Ram) could undertake the construction of the temple in Mathura, following the completion of projects in Ayodhya and Kashi. He argued that the RJD, focused on votes, could not accomplish these tasks.

The elections in Bihar are being conducted in seven phases. In the 2019 elections, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) dominated the state, winning 39 out of 40 seats. The current vote counting is scheduled for June 4. This time, the RJD is contesting 26 seats, Congress 9 seats, and the BJP and JDU are contesting 17 and 16 seats, respectively.
Yogi Adityanath’s speech in Patna underscored the BJP’s strategy to appeal to voters by highlighting the party’s achievements and criticizing the opposition. The outcome of the Bihar elections will be closely watched as an indicator of political trends in the region.
