Former US President Donald Trump is thinking about appointing Tesla CEO Elon Musk as an advisor to the White House as the 2024 Presidential elections approach. As per The Wall Street Journal, the details of this potential appointment are not yet finalized.
However, Trump and Musk have been discussing how Musk could formally advise on various issues, including the border, the economy, and voting fraud.
Musk, who is the third-richest man in the world, has recently started building a closer relationship with Trump. The Wall Street Journal reported that the two talk on the phone several times a month.
This growing rapport is also evident from Musk and billionaire investor Nelson Peltz discussing with Trump a campaign Musk initiated in November to persuade corporate executives not to support President Biden.
As the founder of SpaceX and the owner of the social media platform X, Musk has publicly opposed President Biden and stated that he would not financially support any presidential candidate.
The South African-born billionaire, who became a US citizen in 2002, maintains an independent stance. Reports indicate that Musk met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago following Trump’s victories on Super Tuesday, which solidified Trump’s position as the presumptive Republican nominee.
In March, Musk made a cryptic post on his social media platform, X, regarding the US presidential elections. He stated that he had no plans to donate money to either candidate, writing, “Just to be super clear, I am not donating money to either candidate for US President.”
This stance is consistent with Musk’s history of contributing to both Republicans and Democrats, similar to many other business leaders. Unlike other American billionaires, Musk has not heavily invested in a presidential campaign, instead dividing his contributions roughly equally between the two parties.
As the presidential elections scheduled for November draw closer, Trump and Biden are preparing for a major face-off. President Biden is currently dealing with various domestic issues and foreign policy challenges, particularly the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza. Meanwhile, Trump is handling multiple criminal cases, which could impact his campaign.
The possibility of Musk advising Trump adds an interesting twist to the upcoming elections, as Musk’s innovative and sometimes controversial ideas could influence key policy areas. This developing relationship between Trump and Musk will be closely watched as the election season heats up.
