On Thursday, Ukraine’s military intelligence service, the GUR, announced that its forces had successfully used naval drones to destroy two Russian patrol boats near Crimea, which is currently under Russian control.
The GUR explained that its Group 13 special forces unit carried out the attack using Ukrainian naval drones in the Vuzka bay area of northwest Crimea. They shared a video on Telegram showing the operation.
The footage included scenes of a helicopter firing into the water and bright flashes from the coast. Despite these efforts, the drones managed to complete their mission.
As per the GUR, the two destroyed boats were high-speed amphibious vessels known as KS-701 Tunets, which are used by Russia for coastal patrols. The shared video also showed the drone targeting two moored boats and a nighttime explosion with a large plume of smoke.
The conflict continues to claim lives. In Ukraine, Russian shelling killed a male civilian in the northeast Kharkiv region and another in the southern Kherson region. Meanwhile, Russia reported that a Ukrainian drone strike on a car carrying agricultural workers in the Belgorod region killed one person and injured nine others.
Russia’s Response
Russia stated that it had destroyed two Ukrainian naval drones heading towards Crimea and intercepted 13 aerial drones in the Krasnodar region and over the Black Sea near Crimea.

In addition, Russia claimed to have shot down eight tactical ATACMS missiles over the Sea of Azov, near Crimea. Later, Russia’s defense ministry mentioned that the Black Sea fleet had destroyed four Ukrainian naval drones but did not provide further details.
Despite over two years of Russian bombardment, Ukraine has been actively targeting Russian soil, often hitting energy infrastructure. This latest attack shows Ukraine’s determination to strike back.
In another development, Russia’s FSB security service reported foiling a series of planned sabotage attacks on railway lines in Crimea by Ukrainian special services. Four local residents were detained, and their leader, a Russian citizen, was killed during capture due to an exploding IED.
Russian news showed footage of confiscated weapons and explained that the group planned to disrupt train movements to allow Ukrainian forces to attack them with rockets.
These events highlight the ongoing and intense conflict between Ukraine and Russia, with both sides suffering losses and continuing to engage in offensive and defensive operations.
