Dorothy McAuliffe, the US State Department’s Special Representative for Global Partnerships, will visit Bharat from June 7 to 8. Her visit aims to support and promote the WiSci (Women in Science) South Asia STEAM Camp, an event dedicated to empowering young girls in science, technology, engineering, art and design, and mathematics (STEAM).
The WiSci Camp, which runs from June 1 to 9, will gather around 100 secondary school girls from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the US, and the Maldives. This immersive camp offers skills-building, mentorship, and experiential learning opportunities, aiming to foster the next generation of female leaders in STEAM fields.
The US State Department highlights that the interactive curriculum and workshops are led by industry experts from the US private sector.
Promoting Gender Equality
The WiSci camps are part of the US Department of State’s efforts to advance gender equality globally. By investing in girls’ education and leadership development, the program supports the department’s broader goals of empowering women and girls around the world.
This year’s camp is a collaborative effort between the US Department of State’s Office of Global Partnerships, the UN Foundation’s Girl Up, and the Caterpillar Foundation.
After her participation in the camp in Kochi, Dorothy McAuliffe will travel to various cities in Bharat. During her visit, she will meet with key stakeholders to discuss ongoing and future partnerships with the US Department of State.
She will also hold meetings with alumni of past initiatives from the Office of Global Partnerships, including winners of the 2022 P3 Impact Award and recipients of the COVID-19 Private Sector Engagement and Partnership Fund.

Bharat and the US share a strong and comprehensive strategic partnership, covering a wide range of areas including economic opportunities, health issues, and climate change. This partnership is driven by shared democratic values and a convergence of interests on many global issues. Vibrant people-to-people contacts further strengthen the ties between the two nations.
US-Bharat Cooperation on Cybersecurity
In April, US Ambassador to Bharat, Eric Garcetti, highlighted the successful cooperation between the US and Bharat in combating cybercrime. Speaking at a special screening of the documentary ‘Bogus Phone Operators’ in New Delhi, Garcetti emphasized the importance of bilateral ties in addressing cybersecurity threats.
The screening, organized by the US Embassy, showcased the collaboration between the two nations in tackling illegal call centers and tech fraud.
Ambassador Garcetti described the US-Bharat relationship as “multiplicative,” meaning that the collaboration between the two nations produces results greater than the sum of their individual efforts. He noted that this synergy is evident in various fields, including economic opportunities, health issues, and climate change. Garcetti’s comments underscore the dynamic and multifaceted nature of the US-Bharat partnership.
Dorothy McAuliffe’s visit and the WiSci STEAM Camp are set to further enhance this already robust partnership, promoting gender equality and empowering the next generation of female leaders in STEAM fields.
