A bomb threat was reported aboard an IndiGo flight heading to Mumbai from Chennai. The flight, designated as 6E 5314, took off from Chennai at around 7 am on Saturday and landed at Mumbai airport at approximately 8:45 am.
Upon landing, Mumbai airport authorities swiftly initiated emergency protocols. The entire aircraft is currently being thoroughly searched. A full emergency was declared in response to the bomb threat. Passengers were safely deboarded at an isolation bay as a precautionary measure.
The IndiGo crew discovered a note indicating the presence of a bomb in the aircraft lavatory, according to a report news media. This discovery prompted the crew to follow standard safety procedures to ensure the safety of all passengers and crew members.
This incident marks the second bomb threat faced by IndiGo in less than a week. Earlier in the week, Chennai Airport received threatening bomb emails. The emails alleged mistreatment of passengers by officials and warned of potential explosions at the airport.
The threatening emails received by Chennai Airport claimed bombs were planted at five locations within the airport. The initial email was received at around 1:30 am on Monday, with a follow-up email sent at 9 am. The sender used the name of a senior state police official to create a fake email ID, adding to the urgency of the threat.
Following the receipt of these emails, the Chennai airport director called for an emergency security meeting. The bomb squad conducted extensive searches, and security measures were heightened across the airport. Additionally, airport police and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) were put on high alert.
On May 28, an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Varanasi faced a similar threat. In that instance, all passengers aboard flight 6E2211 were safely evacuated through emergency doors. The aircraft was then moved to a remote bay as per security guidelines. The flight accommodated 174 adults and two children.
