In a surprising turn of events, Pakistan has indirectly acknowledged that Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) is part of Bharat. This revelation emerged during the Islamabad High Court hearing of poet Ahmed Farhad Shah’s abduction case.

Farhad, who had criticized Pakistani military violence in PoJK, was kidnapped from his Islamabad home and went missing for days.
During the court proceedings, a government lawyer stated that Farhad is in PoJK and will remain on remand until June 2. The lawyer argued that PoJK is a “foreign territory,” thus outside the court’s jurisdiction. This statement shocked the judge and Farhad’s lawyer, highlighting Pakistan’s contradictory stance.
Prominent Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir brought this issue to light, questioning the government’s position. He criticized the government for admitting that PoJK is a foreign territory while simultaneously deploying Pakistani Rangers there without proper authorization.
The Ahmed Farhad case has intensified the debate on PoJK’s status, with many Pakistanis now questioning the government’s actions and policies regarding the region. This incident underscores the ongoing struggle for justice and human rights in PoJK

Historically, PoJK was part of Jammu and Kashmir, ruled by Maharaja Hari Singh in 1947. Following violent incursions by Pakistani tribes, Maharaja Hari Singh acceded to Bharat, leading to Bharat’s claim over the entire region.
The Bharatiya government, particularly under Prime Minister Modi, continues to consider PoJK an integral part of Bharat, which has also been mentioned in the constitution of India.
