Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi on Monday. This meeting comes just one day before the votes for the Lok Sabha elections are counted.
JDU and BJP Alliance in Bihar
In the recent elections, Nitish Kumar’s party, the Janata Dal (United) or JDU, contested in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The JDU contested 16 seats while the BJP contested 17 seats in Bihar. Bihar sends a total of 40 members to the Lok Sabha, and voting in the state took place across all seven phases of the elections.
Earlier this year, Nitish Kumar rejoined the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and became the Chief Minister of Bihar with the support of the BJP. This move came after he left the NDA in August 2022 to join the Rashtriya Janata Dal-led ‘Mahagathbandhan’. However, his return to the NDA has been seen as a significant political shift.
