As the world’s largest democracy began its extensive vote counting earlier today, various global leaders wished the best to PM Narendra Modi who is eyeing a third term in this election season. Days after ballots were cast, with the international media keenly observing the development, some Western media outlets seemed to be obsessing over BJP’s nationwide appeal while some propaganda media outlets also disseminated false facts and misinformation over the exit polls and vote countings, questioning the public mandate across the country.
Earlier today, Sky News Australia, while discussing PM Modi who is “set to win the next general election” stated that PM Narendra Modi is a “different style of leader”. Not only did the Australian media channel gave insights into the exit polls predicting victory for the BJP-led NDA alliance, but the news outlet also described how the Indian economy flourished under PM Modi’s leadership and became a “tremendous balancing force to China.”
Canada’s media outlet, CBC News is keenly watching how the results of the Lok Sabha elections are unfolding, underscoring that many around India are “expecting a major win for PM Narendra Modi, giving him a third consecutive term”. Praising India’s democratic fervor, the media outlet stated that after a “historic six-week election”, India’s 642 million voters are awaiting election results.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s media outlet Al Jazeera described the Exit Polls that were out on June 1 as “Modi’s Media results”, while it also questioned India’s vibrant democratic process maintaining that multi-phased elections “are no guarantee for free and fair elections”. Furthermore, propagandist media outlet Al Jazeera aired objectionable comments against the NDA alliance if it gains power. Meanwhile, PM Modi led NDA alliance is indeed making a clean sweep as per the exit polls while the counting is underway.
Nonetheless, heaping praises on the electoral process in India, the Associated Press based in the US is giving timely updates on the counting process stating that if PM Modi wins his much-anticipated third term, he would be the second Indian leader to retain power for a third term after Jawaharlal Nehru, the country’s first prime minister. Speaking on the vibrancy of democracy illustrated in India, the media outlet underscored that nearly 970 million people were eligible to vote in this election season, with the voter turnout being of an average 66% across the seven phases.
Essentially, a change of colors was witnessed in China government-owned Global Times as it underlined that PM Modi 3.0 will strive towards making India the world’s third-largest economy while adding that even a Pakistani political analyst has said that “India’s democracy was at the top of the world”.
It is essential to note here that India created a world record with 64.2 crore voters, including 31.2 crore women, participating in the Lok Sabha elections this year, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said on Monday. While 68,000 monitoring teams and 1.5 crore polling and security personnel were involved in the world’s largest electoral exercise.
