Lok Sabha Elections 2024: BJP Dominates Lok Sabha Seats in Tripura Amidst High Voter Turnout

In a resounding victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured both Lok Sabha seats in Tripura. This marks the second consecutive win for the saffron party in the state’s parliamentary polls, following their triumph in 2019.

The results were declared on Tuesday, with BJP candidates emerging victorious in both the West and East Tripura constituencies.

Election Results 2024 LIVE Updates

Former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb secured the West Tripura constituency with an impressive margin of 611,578 votes. His nearest opponent, Ashish Kumar Saha of the Congress-backed INDIA bloc, trailed significantly with 26,9763 votes. Deb, who spent 16 years in Delhi, returned to Tripura in 2015 as an in-charge of BJP’s Maha Jansampark Abhiyan.

He later ascended to the position of BJP state president and led the party to power in 2018 in alliance with the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT). Deb, who resigned as chief minister in 2022, was subsequently elected as the lone Rajya Sabha MP from Tripura.

In the East Tripura constituency, BJP candidate Kriti Devi Debbarman emerged victorious with a commanding margin of 486,819 votes. Her closest rival, Rajendra Reang of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), secured 290,628 votes.

Debbarman, the youngest daughter of late Kirit Bikram Kishore Manikya, had a diverse background, including environmental education and agricultural work. She is married to Yogeshwar Raj Singh, from the erstwhile Kawardha Raj Royal Family in Chhattisgarh.

Tripura Witnesses High Voter Turnout

Tripura witnessed robust voter turnout during the parliamentary polls, with the West seat recording 81.52 percent and the East recording 80.32 percent voter participation. The elections were held in two phases on April 19 and 26, spanning a total of seven phases across the country.

The BJP’s success in Tripura underscores its growing dominance in the northeastern region of India. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the party had also won both seats, consolidating its hold in the state. The recent victories reaffirm the BJP’s popularity and organizational strength in Tripura.

Dipak Majumder Wins Ramnagar Assembly By-Election

In addition to the Lok Sabha results, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) mayor and BJP candidate Dipak Majumder clinched the Ramnagar Assembly by-election. He secured a comfortable victory with a margin of 18,014 votes over his closest rival from the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

A total of 18 candidates contested the polls in Tripura, with nine in each constituency. The state witnessed the setup of 3,350 polling stations, including 1,686 in the West constituency and 1,664 in the East constituency, ensuring widespread access to voting across the region.
