Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy tendered his resignation on Tuesday in the wake of the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) overwhelming success in the state Assembly elections.
Reddy submitted his resignation to Governor S. Abdul Nazeer shortly after addressing a press conference, according to a statement from the YSR Congress Party. It is anticipated that the Governor will request Reddy to continue as the caretaker Chief Minister until a new government is sworn in.
During the press conference, Reddy expressed his surprise at the election results, which were unexpected for the YSR Congress Party. He reflected on the party’s defeat despite the implementation of numerous welfare schemes aimed at benefiting millions.
Conceding defeat, Reddy vowed to rise again with determination and affirmed that the YSR Congress Party would persist in advocating for the people. He extended his best wishes to the incoming government.
The TDP-Jana Sena-BJP alliance is poised for a sweeping victory, having secured 106 seats and leading in 57 more in the Assembly elections. The alliance is also ahead in 21 out of the 25 Lok Sabha seats.
In contrast, the YSR Congress Party has won only three Assembly seats and is leading in eight others. It is also leading in four Lok Sabha constituencies. This marks a significant decline from 2019 when the YSRCP secured 151 Assembly and 22 Lok Sabha seats.
