Emphasizing the transformative actions taken by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the nation’s benefit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Tuesday that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government will continue its legacy of decisive governance in its third term.
Speaking at the BJP headquarters in the national capital as the counting of Lok Sabha election votes neared conclusion, PM Modi highlighted the significant achievements of the past decade. “In the last ten years, India has made numerous substantial decisions. The philosophy of ‘Nation First’ instills in us the confidence to achieve extraordinary goals. We implemented the world’s largest beneficiary schemes. Seventy years post-independence, 120 million people received tap water, 40 million received pakka houses, and 800 million received free ration,” he remarked.
Modi underscored major steps such as the abrogation of Article 370, COVID-19 management, and reforms in the GST and banking sectors, affirming the government’s commitment to continue making bold decisions. “Because of the ‘Nation First’ approach, Article 370 was abrogated in Kashmir. We enacted reforms like GST, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), and banking reforms. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, we made decisions that benefited the country despite immense pressure. This is why India is the world’s fastest-growing economy today. This vision will lead us to become ‘Atmanirbhar’ (self-reliant),” he stated.
Modi pledged relentless effort towards national progress, saying, “If you work 10 hours, Modi will work 18 hours. If you take 2 steps, Modi will take 4 steps. Together, we will advance and write a new chapter of significant decisions in the third term. This is ‘Modi Ki Guarantee’.”
The Prime Minister noted that over the past decade, 250 million people were lifted out of poverty, with women-led development being a significant priority for the government. “We have lifted 250 million people out of poverty, including a large number of SC, ST, and OBC citizens. Our work will not cease until poverty is eradicated. Rapid progress is expected in electronics, semiconductors, and other new sectors. We have bolstered defense production and exports, aiming for self-reliance in the defense sector. The NDA government will strive to make India the world’s third-largest economy,” he proclaimed.
Reiterating the Constitution as the government’s guiding light, Modi committed to working towards a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). “Our Constitution is our guiding light. This year marks 70 years of our Constitution. We will collaborate with all states and work tirelessly towards becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat’,” he affirmed.
Modi also shared a personal moment, reflecting on his late mother and the support he received from the women of India. “This moment is deeply emotional for me, as it is my first election after my mother’s passing. Yet, the mothers, sisters, and daughters of this nation never let me feel her absence. Their overwhelming blessings were with me wherever I went. Women set new records in voter turnout in this election,” he expressed.
Recounting his victories in the 2014 and 2019 elections, Modi expressed gratitude for the sustained support from the populace. “Ten years ago, the country voted for change amidst widespread disappointment. We were dubbed one of the ‘Fragile Five’. Headlines were dominated by corruption. The nation entrusted us to extract hope from a sea of despair. In 2019, the country reaffirmed its trust in us, making our second tenure a guarantee of development and legacy,” he recounted.
He added, “In 2024, we sought the blessings of the people across the nation based on these guarantees. Today, I bow to the people for the mandate granted to us for the third time.”
As the vote count nears completion, the BJP is leading in 240 seats, with the NDA ahead in around 300 seats. Most exit polls predicted a third term for Prime Minister Modi, with several forecasting a two-thirds majority for the ruling coalition.
Prime Minister Modi himself secured victory in the Varanasi constituency for the third time, defeating Congress candidate Ajay Rai by a margin of 152,513 votes, according to the Election Commission of India. Modi received 612,970 votes, while Rai garnered 460,457 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Ather Jamal Lari placed third with 33,766 votes.
