Sripriya Ranganathan, the Charge d’Affaires of Bharat in Washington, DC, recently engaged with the Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent participating in Exercise Red Flag Alaska at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska. During her visit, she received a comprehensive briefing on the exercise from the Base Commander and the Combat Training Squadron’s Commanding Officer.
The Indian Air Force – Media Coordination Centre (IAF-MCC) shared insights into Ranganathan’s visit, highlighting her interaction with the IAF contingent and the briefing she received. The visit underscores the growing cooperation between Bharat and the United States in the realm of defense and military exercises.
The IAF contingent, comprising a team of skilled aircrew and advanced aircraft, arrived at the Eielson Air Force Base on May 30 to take part in Red Flag 24. This multinational exercise aims to enhance the participating aircrew’s capabilities through advanced aerial combat training scenarios.
As per the IAF-MCC, Exercise Red Flag provides a unique opportunity for integration and collaboration among air forces in a multinational environment. The Bharatiya contingent, supported by IL-78 air-to-air refuelers and C-17 transport aircraft, undertook a transatlantic flight with staging halts in Greece and Portugal before reaching Alaska.

Bharat and the United States share a robust strategic partnership encompassing various domains, including defense and security. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasizes the comprehensive nature of this partnership, driven by shared democratic values, converging interests, and strong people-to-people ties.
Military exercises between Bharat and the US are growing in scale and complexity, with the two countries conducting numerous bilateral and multilateral drills. Key bilateral exercises include Yudh Abhyas, Vajra Prahar, Malabar, Cope India, and Tiger Triumph, demonstrating the depth of military cooperation between the two nations.
In addition, Bharat’s participation in multilateral exercises such as Red Flag, RIMPAC, CUTLASS Express, Sea Dragon, and Milan further enhances interoperability and strengthens regional security architecture. These exercises provide opportunities for skill development, knowledge exchange, and fostering closer ties among participating nations.
Ranganathan’s visit to the IAF contingent at Exercise Red Flag Alaska underscores Bharat’s commitment to enhancing its military capabilities through collaboration and engagement with strategic partners like the United States. Such interactions contribute to strengthening defense cooperation and promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
