The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi for the third consecutive time. Following this victory, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said that the people of Delhi have “rejected” Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Sachdeva’s comments came after a Delhi court extended Kejriwal’s judicial custody till June 19.
Court Extends Kejriwal’s Custody
The court’s decision to extend Kejriwal’s custody was made on Wednesday, a day after the BJP’s electoral victory in Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor, Kejriwal, had been seeking a seven-day bail for medical reasons in relation to the excise policy money laundering case.
However, the court dismissed his plea and instructed Tihar Jail authorities to conduct all necessary medical tests and provide treatment.
Virendraa Sachdeva made strong remarks against Kejriwal, stating, “Today the court has made it clear that you (Arvind Kejriwal) stay there (in Tihar jail), and whatever healthcare you need, the jail authorities will provide it.” He also added, “Arvind Kejriwal, the people of Delhi have rejected you…The corruption charge against you is a serious one. So I think now they (AAP) should stop playing the game of jail and bail and accept the decision of the court.”

Arvind Kejriwal surrendered to Tihar Jail authorities on Sunday, June 2, and was subsequently sent to judicial custody until June 5. His arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 was part of a money laundering investigation connected to alleged irregularities in the now-cancelled Delhi excise policy of 2021-22.
Interim Bail and Supreme Court Orders
On May 10, the Supreme Court had granted Kejriwal interim bail until June 1 in the same money laundering case. The court, however, restricted him from visiting the Office of the Chief Minister or the Delhi Secretariat during this period.
Despite the interim bail granted by the Supreme Court, Kejriwal’s judicial custody has now been extended until June 19. He was produced before the court through virtual mode for the latest hearing.
This series of events highlights the ongoing legal challenges faced by Arvind Kejriwal amidst the BJP’s continued dominance in Delhi’s Lok Sabha seats.
