Narendra Modi, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is gearing up to take the oath as Prime Minister for the third consecutive time on June 9th at 7:15 pm, as announced by the Rashtrapati Bhavan. This decision follows Modi’s meeting with President Droupadi Murmu, during which he formally staked a claim to form the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government under his leadership.
The process was set in motion when BJP Chief J P Nadda presented a letter to President Murmu, declaring Modi as the elected leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party and providing letters of support from NDA leaders. President Murmu, exercising her authority under Article 75(1) of the Indian Constitution, appointed Narendra Modi to the office of Prime Minister.
With this official appointment, President Murmu requested Modi to advise her on the selection of other individuals to be appointed as members of the Union Council of Ministers and to specify the date and time for the swearing-in ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Responding, Modi expressed gratitude towards the Bharatiya populace for granting the NDA government another opportunity to serve the country. He pledged to diligently work towards fulfilling the aspirations of the people during this third term. Modi also highlighted the progress made in various sectors during the previous terms, citing the significant achievement of lifting 25 crore people out of poverty.
The NDA, comprising various political parties including the BJP, received crucial support from allies like the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Janata Dal (United). Together, they hold a comfortable majority in the Lok Sabha, with 293 out of 543 seats. The BJP alone secured 240 seats in the 2019 elections, consolidating its position as the single largest party in the coalition.
As preparations for the swearing-in ceremony continue, the nation anticipates the formation of the new Union Council of Ministers under Modi’s leadership, setting the stage for the governance agenda of the third term of the NDA government.
