In preparation for Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony as Prime Minister of India tomorrow, authorities have implemented extensive security arrangements in and around Delhi. This includes imposing prohibitory orders and declaring the city a no-fly zone. President Droupadi Murmu will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Modi and his cabinet ministers at 7:15 pm on Sunday, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan’s Forecourt.
Key Security Measures:
1. Top officials from Delhi Police conducted a thorough security review at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
2. Special security protocols have been established for foreign dignitaries, including Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremasinghe, and Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay.
3. Enhanced security measures are in place at the hotels where these foreign guests will be staying.
4. Delhi Police issued an advisory declaring a No-Fly Zone over the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi.
5. The advisory prohibits sub-conventional aerial platforms to prevent potential threats from criminal and anti-social elements or terrorists.
6. Restrictions will be effective from June 9 to June 10.
7. The prohibited items include para-gliders, para-motors, hang-gliders, UAVs, UASS, microlight aircraft, remotely piloted aircraft, hot air balloons, small-sized powered aircraft, quadcopters, and para-jumping from aircraft.
8. Violators will be penalized and prosecuted under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
9. The Rashtrapati Bhavan has canceled the weekly Change of Guard Ceremony on June 8 to prepare for the event.
10. Security measures were heightened following Modi’s formal appointment as prime minister-designate by the President on Friday.
Modi was elected as the NDA’s Parliamentary leader after a meeting of the alliance’s newly elected MPs in the Central Hall of Parliament on Friday. Later, he met President Murmu to stake a claim to form the government. She appointed Modi as the prime minister-designate after BJP President J.P. Nadda handed her a letter confirming Modi’s election as the leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party.
According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 240 seats, down from its 2019 tally of 303. The Congress made significant gains, securing 99 seats. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) garnered 293 seats, while the INDIA bloc won 234 seats.
