The Election Commission of India has set the stage for bye-elections in 13 assembly constituencies across seven states. These elections, aimed at filling vacant seats, are scheduled to take place on July 10, with the vote count slated for July 13. The constituencies in question span Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and West Bengal.
Among the seats awaiting candidates are Rupauli in Bihar, Vikravandi in Tamil Nadu, Amarwara (ST) in Madhya Pradesh, and Jalandhar West (SC) in Punjab. In addition, Uttarakhand will witness contests in Badrinath and Manglaur, while Himachal Pradesh will see elections in Dehra, Nalagarh, and Hamirpur. West Bengal’s four seats awaiting elections include Raiganj, Ranaghat Dakshin (SC), Maniktala, and Bagda (SC).
These vacancies emerged due to various reasons, including resignations and unfortunate deaths of sitting MLAs. The resignations led to vacancies in Rupauli, Amarwara (ST), Jalandhar West (SC), Badrinath, Dehra, Nalagarh, Hamirpur, Raiganj, Ranaghat Dakshin (SC), and Bagda. Meanwhile, Vikravandi, Maniktala, and Manglaur seats became vacant following the demise of their respective MLAs.
Candidates interested in contesting these bye-elections have until June 21 to file their nominations, with the option to withdraw their candidature until June 26. The Election Commission has opted for Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) systems in all polling stations to ensure a smooth voting process.

The model code of conduct has been enforced in the constituency since June 10 and will remain in effect until the election process concludes on July 15. The Jalandhar West seat became vacant following the resignation of MLA Sheetal Angural.
With the stage set and procedures outlined, the Election Commission aims to conduct these bye-elections efficiently and transparently, ensuring the democratic process continues smoothly in the concerned constituencies. Voters and candidates alike are urged to adhere to the electoral guidelines for a fair and democratic outcome.
