On Tuesday, N Chandrababu Naidu, the president of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), was unanimously chosen as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Andhra Pradesh. This decision was made during a meeting at a convention center in Vijayawada. Jana Sena Party leader, Pawan Kalyan, proposed Naidu’s name as the chief ministerial candidate, and this proposal was supported by D Purandeswari, the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Naidu, in his acceptance speech, affirmed that Amaravati would remain the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh. He also committed to the development of Visakhapatnam and Kurnool. A unanimous resolution by the MLAs of the three alliance partners confirmed Naidu’s leadership, which will be sent to Governor Justice Abdul Nazeer. The Governor has formally invited the NDA to form the government, and an official notification has been issued.
Naidu’s swearing-in ceremony as Chief Minister is scheduled for Wednesday. The event will be attended by prominent leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with other NDA leaders.
Pawan Kalyan, while proposing Naidu’s name, highlighted the need for Naidu’s experience and vision in Andhra Pradesh. He mentioned that the people of the state had rejected the previous government, which he described as anarchic and dictatorial, and had given the NDA a significant mandate.
Kalyan praised Naidu for his resilience in standing up for the people’s cause despite facing numerous challenges, recalling their emotional meeting in Rajahmundry Central Jail when Naidu was arrested in a skill development scam.
BJP state president D Purandeswari, who seconded Kalyan’s proposal, stated that the alliance between the three parties in Andhra Pradesh set an exemplary standard for political cooperation. She assured that the BJP is committed to the development of the state and will provide all necessary support from the central government.

In his speech, Naidu thanked Pawan Kalyan, Purandeswari, Prime Minister Modi, and all the elected members. He expressed that this election was particularly special for him due to the overwhelming mandate from the people. Naidu attributed the victory to the coordination among the workers of the three parties. He also emphasized the importance of humility and groundedness, warning the elected members against arrogance.
This unanimous decision and the subsequent support highlight the strong alliance and collaborative efforts of the NDA in Andhra Pradesh, aiming to bring stability and development to the state under Naidu’s leadership.
