Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to embark on his first international trip of his third consecutive term in office. He will be traveling to Italy this week to participate in the annual summit of the G7 advanced economies. The summit is scheduled to take place from June 13 to 15 at the luxurious Borgo Egnazia resort in Italy’s Apulia region.
The G7 summit is expected to address significant global issues, particularly the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the situation in Gaza. Among the prominent leaders attending the summit are US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also slated to participate in a session dedicated to discussing the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Modi’s itinerary includes bilateral meetings with several leaders, including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. This visit marks Modi’s return to the G7 summit since his participation in the previous summit held in Hiroshima in May of the previous year.
Italy, currently holding the presidency of the G7, is hosting the summit with a focus on upholding the rules-based international system. The Italian presidency emphasizes addressing global crises, particularly the aggression in Ukraine and its destabilizing effects worldwide, along with the conflict in the Middle East.
The G7, comprising the US, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Canada, and Japan, traditionally extends invitations to representatives of other countries and international organizations. In line with this tradition, Italy has invited leaders from 11 developing countries across Africa, South America, and the Indo-Pacific region to participate in the summit.

The trip underscores India’s engagement with the global community and its commitment to addressing pressing international issues through diplomatic channels.
