The fire broke out in a building located in the southern Mangaf district of Kuwait. The fire occurred in a residential building in the Al-Mangaf area, housing mainly Bharatiya workers. The building, rented by the NBTC group, an engineering and construction firm, accommodated more than 195 workers, most of whom were from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and northern states of Bharat. The blaze was reported to authorities in Al-Ahmadi governorate at 4:30 AM. Local media indicated that most fatalities were due to smoke inhalation while the residents were asleep.
Officials have confirmed the deaths of 40 Bharatiya nationals, with fears that the death toll might rise. Additionally, several others have been injured and are receiving treatment. The deceased were aged between 20 and 50 years.
Response from Indian Authorities
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also expressed his deep shock and sadness over the incident. He assured that the Indian Embassy in Kuwait would provide full assistance to those affected. “Deeply shocked by the news of the fire incident in Kuwait City. There are reportedly over 40 deaths and over 50 have been hospitalized. Our Ambassador has gone to the camp. We are awaiting further information,” Jaishankar wrote on X. He extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Bharatiya Ambassador to Kuwait, Adarsh Swaika, visited the Al-Adan hospital, where over 30 injured Indian workers are being treated. The Bharatiya Embassy tweeted about Swaika’s visit, stating, “Amb @AdarshSwaika visited the Al-Adan hospital where over 30 Indian workers injured in today’s fire incident have been admitted. He met a number of patients and assured them of full assistance from the Embassy.”
The Bharatiya Embassy in Kuwait continues to closely monitor the situation and is coordinating with Kuwaiti authorities to provide necessary aid and support to those affected by the fire.
