The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, including Suresh Pujari, Rabinarayan Naik, Nityananda Gond, and Krushna Chandra Patra, took their oaths as ministers in the new cabinet led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The ceremony was held at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday and was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Mohan Charan Majhi also took his oath as the Chief Minister, marking the formation of the first BJP government in Odisha. Alongside him, two deputy Chief Ministers, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, were also sworn in. Notably, Pravati Parida has become the first woman to hold the deputy chief minister position in the state.
The oath-taking ceremony saw the swearing-in of eight ministers and five ministers of state with independent charge. Odisha Governor Raghubar Das administered the oaths to the new Chief Minister and his deputies.

Naveen Patnaik, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and former Chief Minister of Odisha who served for 24 years, was also present at the ceremony. The event was attended by several high-profile BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Nitin Gadkari.
Chief Ministers from various states, including Assam’s Himanta Biswa Sarma, Haryana’s Nayab Singh Saini, Uttarakhand’s Pushkar Singh Dhami, Gujarat’s Bhupendra Patel, Chhattisgarh’s Vishnu Dev Sai, Tripura’s Manik Saha, Madhya Pradesh’s Mohan Yadav, and Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi Adityanath, also graced the occasion.
Chief Minister Majhi received a warm welcome from the audience as he arrived at Janata Maidan, greeting the crowd cheerfully. This new government marks the end of BJD’s 24-year rule, following BJP’s impressive victory in the recent assembly polls.
Majhi emphasized that his government will prioritize protecting Odisha’s ‘Asmita’ (pride). At 52 years old, Majhi, a member of the Santali tribe, hails from the Keonjhar district. He was chosen as the leader of the BJP legislature party in Odisha just a day before the ceremony.

Majhi began his political career as a sarpanch from 1997 to 2000 and was first elected to the state assembly in 2000 from Keonjhar. He was re-elected in 2004 and served as the government deputy chief whip in the BJD-BJP coalition from 2005 to 2009. Majhi was again elected as an MLA in 2019. In the recent polls, he retained his seat by defeating BJD’s Mina Majhi by 11,577 votes.
The BJP secured 78 out of 147 seats in the Odisha assembly, leading to the formation of its first government in the state.
